Save Bed-Stuy Farm
Since 2002, Brooklyn Rescue Mission (BRM) has provided emergency food and clothing assistance to residents of Bedford-Stuyvesant and beyond. A few years ago, disappointed by the lack of fresh, quality produce both in the neighborhood and through donations, BRM took action and converted two city-owned but abandoned, litter-strewn lots in back of their headquarters into an urban organic oasis.
The 2008 recipient of World Hunger Year‘s Henry Chapin Self-Reliance Award, Bed-Stuy Farm produces over 7,000 pounds of food each year, feeding over 4,000 families a month. In addition, BRM hosts a seasonal community farmer’s market, selling their produce alongside farmers from New York’s Hudson Valley region.
Brooklyn Rescue Mission and Bedford-Stuyvesant are asking residents and those committed to food justice to support their efforts to keep Bed-Stuy Farm thriving.
