<p>There are several things that I don&#8217;t like to admit about myself, like my middle class (upbringing) tendencies/sensibilities, specifically the arrogant/uppity ones; my predominately Locavore lifestyle (I prefer the term, locally minded);  and, I am <em>not</em> a foodie (dammit).</p>
<p>But the more I resist the label, the more I find myself embracing it. <em>Locavore</em>, that is.</p>
<p>So it&#8217;s Eat Drink Local Week, and Edible Brooklyn has a list of ideas get you thinking about local eats and supporting regional farmers and locally owned restaurants who source from them, and even creating your own meals.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m gearing up for several events I&#8217;m organizing and promoting during NOFA-NY&#8217;s <a href="http://honeybeeholistic.info/nylocavorechallenge/">Locavore Challenge</a> this September, and the Eat Drink Local Week is just the thing to kickstart NYC&#8217;s Food Summer.</p>

<p>StoryCorps is back for Black History Month @ <a href="http://www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org/branch_library_detail.jsp?branchpageid=181" target="_blank">Macon Library</a>.</p>

<p>Macon&#8217;s African-Atlantic Genealogy Society has partnered with StoryCorps  to record and preserve your own intimate and important histories.</p>
<p>Each conversation is recorded on a free CD for participants to keep, and  is also preserved at the American Folklife Center at the Library of  Congress.</p>

<p><strong>DESCRIPTION</strong>: The Youth Bike Summit is a 3-day gathering geared        towards students, educators, and advocates. The conference aims to inspire        people from different educational disciplines together to explore,        network, and learn how bicycling can be a legitimate and safe form of        transportation for today&#8217;s youth. With this mission in mind, the Youth        Bike Summit will offer educational workshops and panel discussions on        subjects ranging from how to advocate for bike lanes to basic bike        maintenance. It will also provide tools and information on fundraising,        and best practices for schools that wish to incorporate bikes into the        physical fabric of the learning environment.</p>
